Best Songs of 2012

  1. Led Er Est  ”Turritopsis Blues“ - Maybe not the best song of the year, but the song I was most excited to find and the song least likely to be featured on any other list.
  2. Kendrick Lamar  ”Cartoon and Cereal” - Best song by the best rapper of 2012, which unfortunately didn’t make his album due to sample clearance issues.
  3. Future  ”Turn On The Lights” - Best voice of 2012.
  4. Liars ● No. 1 Against The Rush” - Best song by a tenured “rock” band of 2012.

  6. Chief Keef  ”Don’t Like” - Chief Keef is The Critic of our times.
  7. Merchandise  ”In Nightmare Room” - Having posted this, I was (kinda) glad to see some of the major music websites eventually take notice of these guys. Feel free to download their whole album via their record label here.

I encountered this “ghost plant” while hiking in Cascade Head this weekend. It’s a flower that can grow in the dark by parasitizing fungus rather than relying on photosynthesis for energy (hence the lack of green).

Of all the responses I received for my (admittedly half-assed) The Listserve post, this was my favorite. Comic sans and an AOL address! Of the 18,327 current subscribers, .17% sent me an email response. Of those responses, 89.7% were positive. The second best negative response was from Ashton Kutcher’s former personal assistant, with the subject title “ugh”.

As of today I’m an official Portland, Oregon, resident. I actually moved here for a job, which seems to be unheard of. If you’re an internet friend/acquaintance/follower and live in the city, please tell me about all of the things. I’m pretty good at sniffing out cool stuff, but I’d love any and all suggestions. If you are a human I know IRL, please introduce me to your friends who live in Portland! Also, since I’ve found nothing exceptional in the way of local blogs, I plan on updating this Portland tumblr I started called PORTLIN (which is rather unexceptional at the moment).
